Mozambique - August 11 to August 14

Technoserve is providing support for this cashew factory in Namige,
Mozambique. It is housed in a building that was bombed and severely damaged
during the civil war in Mozambique and has now been renovated. Miranda, the
owner and creator of the factory hopes to build several more in the same area,
thus providing employment for more people, and an improvement in the
economy of this remote area in the African bush.

Catholic Relief Services in South Africa is concentrating all of their efforts to deal
with the AIDS pandemic there. They support a variety of organizations
providing services to those affected. Like the St. Francis Care Center, many of
these are multi-faceted, dealing with those infected, their care-givers, and the
many children orphaned by this disease. Mercy Center includes a health clinic,
home visits, and education, especially among the students at the Center.

Tanzania - August 21 to 26

Emusoi is a center for young Maasai women in Arusha, Tanzania, started by
Sister Mary Vertucci, MM and supported through the Maryknoll Sisters. This
Center aims to help these young women realize the value of education for
themselves and their communities. We visited not only the Center in Arusha but
were also privileged to visit the homes of some of their families in the outlying
areas.
